Me cuido te cuido.PNG

Familias en Acción's
12th annual Conference:
Me Cuido, Te Cuido

June 24 & 25, 2021

About the Conference: “Me cuido, te cuido” prioritizes one's health, the health of one's partners, and that of the community. This perspective cultivates and promotes values of mutual respect, acceptance, equality and empathy.

This year's virtual conference aims to broaden our knowledge and awareness on sexual health, sexuality, and HIV by leveraging the experiences of the Latino community. We will highlight community-driven initiatives that prevent new HIV infections, support Latinos living with HIV, and work towards ending cultural stigmas that impact Latino health.

Mesoamerican Languages in Oregon: One-Day Free Conference

Mesoamerican Languages.png

Learn Best Practices in Language Justice and Language Services
June 16, 9am - 4pm

Get Press Release and Flyer with Conference Schedule in English and Spanish Here

Register for this Free Event Here

The pandemic has highlighted the need to deliver information in linguistically appropriate methods to deliver services critical for the wellbeing of individuals, particularly for Indigenous farmworkers and their families facing the already disproportionate pandemic impact. The Oregon COVID-19 Farmworker Study found that farmworkers speak over 26 distinct Indigenous Mesoamerican languages from Guatemala and Mexico in their sample alone. State-sponsored programs often promoted in Spanish are not always sufficiently accessible to Indigenous farmworkers.

This one-day free online event is designed for Oregon-based government agencies and non-governmental organizations to learn best practices in language justice and language services. Participants will hear from community members and advocates that responded during the pandemic through hands-on workshop opportunities built to improve language accessibility practices in Oregon.

The event will be held mostly in Spanish with professional interpretation into English and one Mesoamerican language. Please email mar36@pdx.edu for accommodation requests.

Training for Educators & Those Supporting Educators

June 7, 5:00 - 6:15pm

Register here for this FREE event by June 5

It is an honor for the Sabiduría program in collaboration with Trauma Informed Oregon to offer a training for educators focused on supporting resiliency and self-regulation for BIPOC students.

This session is tailored to educators of elementary and middle school age students, particularly those working with students of color, as well as those who support educators.

We’ll define emotion regulation and bust some myths around “resilience” and “regulation”. You will walk away with actionable regulation strategies to practice in the moment that can also be implemented within a classroom setting in a culturally-responsive and trauma-informed manner. The session will end with designing a personalized action plan on staying accountable to implementing at least one regulation strategy for yourself and/or in the classroom. A recorded video will be available after the session.
